Garissa
County has entered world map with the sighting of a rare female giraffe and her
calf. The first man to spot the rare phenomenon was a herder, whom on spotting
the giraffe took it as a vision or a ghost since it is unheard and has never
been seen before a white giraffe to him...All this happened in June 2017 and
upon sighting the rare species the villager ran to the Hirola conservancy which
is a nearby conservancy working to conserve endangered Hirola antelope. The
conservatist rushed to the site and behold they found the tall female giraffe
accompanied by its baby giraffe calf. It was an amazing sight and the conservasist
spent 30 minutes with the duo taking
photos and videos.mr Abdullah H. Ali said that the giraffe were so calm and
seemed not disturbed by their presence” the mother kept pacing back and forth a
few yards infront of us while signaling the baby giraffe to hide behind the bushes”
the white giraffe or leucistic giraffe have only been sighted in Kenya and Tanzania,
the first sighting being in January 2016 in Tarangire national park Tanzania
and the second in Ishaqbini conservancy Garissa county in march of 2016.experts
say that the condition known as leucism is as result of partial loss of the
pigmentation of the giraffes original color. Elders and the surrounding
communities have interpreted it as a new dawn of peace
